Northern Illinois is under a tornado warning for March 15, 2016. The warning is in effect until 9 p.m., NBC reports. The watch has been issued for LaSalle and Livingston Counties, Adams, Bureau, Calhoun and Carrol, as well as 30 others. The warning began at 3:30 p.m. and ends at 9:00 p.m.
While the Superer Tuesday primary polls are almost closed for Illinois, the northern area of Illinois has been under a slight risk of severe storms for most of the day. NBC 5 recommends that Illinois voters cast their ballots early, due to the severe weather concerns that are also affecting the western part of the state. Indiana was also at risk for severe weather for most of Tuesday afternoon.
Storms are due to begin in the evening, with high winds, hail, and possibly of two tornadoes, along with heavy rainfall. While the threat of the tornadoes is low, all of the other severe weather warnings are within the moderate range. The National Weather Service has warned that a severe storm could be on its way as all of the pieces could fall into place for one.
A high wind warning for Chicago is also in place in the early morning hours, after the Tornado warning passes. 60 mph winds are expected, and the warning is expected to last from Wednesday 4 a.m. through 8 p.m.
Update: NBC News has announced the tornado warning has been extended to 11:00 p.m.
