Manhattan police reported that after 4 p.m. EST on Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, a woman chose to jump from her apartment window in an act of suicide and injured an elderly man in her fall. The incident occurred on First Avenue, by 51st Street in Manhattan.
According to Manhattan officials, the 56-year-old suicidal woman jumped from a third story window at 903 First Avenue. When the woman jumped she landed on a 71-year-old man who had been walking past the Turtle Bay apartment building.
The woman who jumped was declared dead at the scene. However, the elderly man she landed on when she jumped was taken to the New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. The 71-year-old man has serious injuries from the fall, nevertheless, officials report that he is expected to survive.
