By Jeanette SmithThe East Coast is expected to experience historical blizzard conditions the weekend of Jan. 22, 2016. It is anticipated that the snow will effect 15 or more states. Meteorologists believe this blizzard could possibly become an historic winter event.
Thursday, Jan. 21, according to The Weather Channel, 80 million people were given from blizzard and winter storm watches all the way down to a freezing rain advisory. States impacted could include states from Nebraska down to the Carolinas and up to New York City. The Mid-Atlantic region, specifically Washington, D.C. is predicted to have blizzard conditions Friday through Saturday, as the snow could fall at two to three inches an hour.
The most snow that has fallen on Washington, D.C. was 30 inches on Jan. 27, 1922. Early snowfall predictions from the Weather Channel have said, two feet in D.C., 3 feet at Dulles airport, and 2 feet in Roanoke, Virginia and Charlotte, North Carolina.
However, snow has already begun to fall early than predicted. Wednesday night an inch of snow unexpectedly fell on Washington, D.C. The inch of snow caused slippery roads and the president’s motorcade to skid.
The Northeast is expected to have blizzard conditions. The Weather Channel believes heavy snow will fall from Friday afternoon until Sunday morning leaving 6 inches of snow from New York City to Long Island. Winds of up to 60 mph, heavy snowfall, downed trees and power outages are expected. Maryland and Pennsylvania governors have already called for a State of Emergency in anticipation for what is to come.
