endometrium

Are you a Starbuck’s fan? If not, you might think about it, or have that extra cup of coffee at work.  A new study shows that women who drink at least four cups of coffee each day reduce their risk of contracting endometrial cancer by 18 percent. Approximately 10,000 women die from this form of cancer each year in the United States alone.

Nearly all forms of uterine cancer begin in the endometrium, which is the lining of the uterine wall. This is the most recent study, and just as former studies revealed, coffee has a positive effect. This latest effort was completed in London; the dietary habits of 2,800 women were studied who had received a diagnosis of endometrial cancer.

Previous studies also confirmed the 18 percent deduction rate; however some concluded that 37 ounces of coffee were recommended, while others believed 26 ounces were sufficient.

Why and how does coffee have positive effects on endometrial cancer? Researchers are not quite certain. One theory is that coffee reduces the estrogen level in women. They found no difference between regular or decaffeinated coffee.

Additional research will be conducted to confirm the reason coffee is beneficial.

So, if you enjoy coffee regularly, this is good news. If you are a tea drinker, you might consider drinking some coffee during your day. And because decaf is included, a warm cup of coffee an hour or so before bedtime may be soothing and relaxing.
