According to CNN, the United States Special Operations forces captured an ISIS operative on March 1, 2016. The suspect is the first ISIS-involved individual to be captured.
The suspect is currently in custody and is being interrogated though the exact locations of the interrogation and the capture are unknown. The U.S. Special Ops team, led by the Army’s Delta Force, captured the suspect in Northern Iraq. Officials from Iraq will take the suspect from U.S. custody within the next few days.
Last year, the Special Ops team took custody of Abu Sayyaf’s wife. Sayyaf was a key ISIS figure and because of her capture, U.S. officials were able to gain information regarding ISIS. Such information allowed for the precocious development of the highly-secretive targeting team.
Ash Carter, the U.S. Defense Secretary, developed the mission to kill or capture ISIS suspects to further prevent ISIS attacks in the U.S. The targeting force was required to go to Iraq for this mission and conduct raids and interrogations.
